Nick Kyrgios will team up with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in a remarkable doubles pairing in Brisbane, as the pair ramp up preparations for the Australian Open - live on Eurosport and discovery+. Kyrgios will return to Melbourne for his first appearance in a major since his US Open exit in 2022. The Brisbane International kicks off on Sunday, December 29.
As you may be wondering what happened to the Australian? Well he had a knee and wrist injury, but he is playing not only the doubles at Brisbane open but he is also playing Australian open from 2025.
Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic look set to join forces at the Brisbane International, as they prepare to get their 2024 campaigns underway at the Australian Open next month. The Australian will be returning to Grand Slam action for the first time since his US Open quarter-final exit in 2022, playing in singles - under a protected ranking of No. 21 - and doubles alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Djokovic returns to the ATP 250 tennis event in Australia for the first time since 2009, as the Olympic champion continues the hunt for his 100th career singles title .Meanwhile, this will be Kyrgios’ first competitive tournament for 18 months. The Australian is back on home soil where he was victorious in Brisbane back in 2018. He has played just one match in the last two years due to injury.
Although the tournament organizers have not officially confirmed the partnership, Kyrgios posted an Instagram story on Monday (16 December), a photo of him and Djokovic captioned, “Doubles at Brisbane. See y’all there.”
I personally and possibly even you are probably so eager to see the duo that were once rivals but now firm friends rule at Brisbane open.
